In order to implement above-ground drip irrigation in beds and hedges, 16 mm PE pipe is used. This is available both in a pressure-sensitive version for smaller irrigation projects and in a pressure-compensating version. The latter ensures that even with longer drip tube sections and on slopes, uniform irrigation can be achieved and that all drippers deliver the same amount of water regardless of their location.
The pipes can be covered with bark mulch, which additionally reduces the evaporation rate. Underground installation is not recommended due to the missing root ingrowth barrier.
