Valves and Valve Boxes for Irrigation

Solenoid valves and valve box for garden irrigation

Solenoid valves control the flow of water in the respective irrigation circuit; they are the components of the irrigation system that turn the water on and off. The system should be designed in such a way that the available water volume is sufficient to optimally supply one irrigation circuit with water at a time. The irrigation controller then performs the task of releasing one valve after the other. Usually, a solenoid valve is operated with 24 volts alternating voltage (VAC). When connected to a smart home system, special valves with 12 and 24 volts direct voltage (DC) may be required. Valves with flow regulation allow the diaphragm tension to be altered and thus the flow rate to be adjusted. Valves can be mounted in a box or on the wall as a distribution unit.

If a battery-powered control unit is to be used independently of the mains supply, the valves must be adapted accordingly. In this case, only 9V DC valves can be used. Here, too, the Plug&Rain® system offers pre-assembled solutions with the 9V valve box.

Installing the solenoid valves: valve box or wall-mounted manifold unit

Solenoid valves can be installed in the ground in valve boxes or mounted on the wall with a valve manifold unit. Both options are modularly expandable if further irrigation circuits are to be connected. Valves and manifolds are designed for a pressure of up to 10 bar. In winter, the entire system is drained with compressed air. For this purpose, a pneumatic compressor is connected in the supply line or in the area of the valve distribution to drain all areas of the system with compressed air.

Hunter and Rain Bird solenoid valves : The reliable solution

Hunter and Rain Bird solenoid valves are the heart of your irrigation system. Both companies have many years of experience in designing and manufacturing valves for automatic irrigation, and over the years have built some of the broadest product ranges in the industry. From low flow to the highest flow rates, from low pressure to high pressure applications, for either drinking or domestic water quality, you will find the valve best suited for your particular application, designed for years of reliable service.

In our online shop we have compiled for you the most popular models from the Hunter and Rain Bird valve range for the domestic garden and small commercial areas.

Hunter PGV electric solenoid valve

  • 2-way valve for garden irrigation
  • normally closed valve (nc, en), the component is opened electrically when voltage is applied

The Hunter PGV series is a complete line of valves designed to serve common irrigation system needs. Each of the Hunter valves boasts high-quality design and durability to suit all types of green spaces. Model features: Pressure resistance up to max. 10 bar, suitable for cold water, available both as MT and FT model, voltage of solenoid is 24V AC (50 - 60V/Hz, amp approx 300-600mA), solenoids operate the irrigation system, directional valve with arrow, therefore uni-directional. Long-term availability of spare parts.

2-way valves - scope of application and use in irrigation

A valve box is a container in which solenoid valves can be installed to adjust the flow of water. It is made of plastic and is available in different sizes. The valve box can hold up to six solenoid valves and allows the valves to be installed underground. The valve box is available in two versions: Jumbo (1220) and Standard (1419). The Jumbo version has space for more valves and is therefore suitable to cover larger areas. The standard version is suitable for smaller and medium-sized gardens and allows for easy installation.

Structure of the valve box - product details and use

The valve box has a cover that can be opened with a wrench. This allows easy access to the valves for installation or maintenance. The lid also serves as protection from rain, animals and other elements that could interfere with the valves inside the box. The box is usually shipped without pre-drilled holes so that the user can adapt it to their own specific needs.
