Gardena Pipelines
Compatibility with other manufacturers

The Gardena Pipeline system with 25 mm outer diameter is compatible with ¾” (25mm) PE pipe. Underground water pipes made of robust polyethylene (PE) lead the water from the water supply to the places in the garden where the water is to be distributed.

Clamp connector for reliable assembly of PE pipes

With an underground pipeline system in your garden, the water can be easily distributed throughout a garden. This means that garden hoses lying around and rolling them up and down are finally a thing of the past. Various connection systems are available so that the PE pipe can be laid reliably and safely. The patented Gardena “Quick and Easy” connection technology allows quick and easy installation of the pipe system. Various connection pieces (elbows, T-pieces, etc.) are installed underground with the connecting pipe. Alternatively, the compatible compression fittings (e.g. from the manufacturer Unidelta) or the simple plug system Blu Lock can also be used.

Pressure resistance of PE pipes: The right wall thickness for every application

The pipe is permanently under pressure between the water supply (pump or tap) and the valve distribution or the water outlet. Therefore, pressure-resistant PE pipes with at least PN 8 should be used here. The compressive strength should in any case be higher than the maximum pressure so that the PE pipes can withstand the maximum amount. As a rule, lower pressures occur downstream of the solenoid valves because various outputs counteract the build-up of pressure. Here we recommend the use of PN 6 pipe. Thinner-walled PE pipes can also be used when laying above-ground pipes in the area of micro irrigation.

Description of the PE pipes

Pressure resistance (20° C water temperature)

PN 2.5

pressure resistant up to 2.5 bar

PN 4

pressure resistant up to 4.0 bar

PN 6

pressure resistant up to 6.0 bar

PN 8

pressure resistant up to 8.0 bar

PN 10

pressure resistant up to 10.0 bar

PN 12.5

pressure resistant up to 12.5 bar

PN 16

pressure resistant up to 16,0 bar

Wintering - This makes your irrigation system frost-proof:

A drainage valve prevents frost damage to your underground piping system. This automatic drain valve drains your system as soon as the water pressure drops below a minimum value. Therefore the system empties itself after each irrigation. Nevertheless, frost damage may occur at lower locations and in sprinklers with an outlet stop valve. Therefore we recommend emptying the irrigation system in winter with an air compressor. For this purpose, a compressed air connection is installed in the main line. Ball valves allow draining to the irrigation or to the sprinklers / drip pipes. With compressed air, the water in the pipes is blown out of the entire system, circuit by circuit. Any remaining small pockets of water cannot cause any damage in the pipe system.
