Irrigation controller for garden irrigation
An automatic irrigation system is a system that distributes water automatically. It consists of a controller, which controls the sensors using data from the internet, and various irrigation points. The irrigation system distributes water to 400 different irrigation stations on multiple soils. The soil moisture sensor measures soil moisture and the irrigation computer adjusts the amount of water accordingly. The system also uses a Hydrawise controller which is a web-based control unit. It monitors and controls the irrigation system from any mobile device or website. With this system, you can track your plants' needs in real time and make adjustments as needed.
Garden irrigation - benefits of irrigation systems
The benefits of an automatic irrigation system are numerous. First, it reduces the labour costs: Since you don't have to water your garden by hand every day, you save time and money on labour costs. Secondly, it helps save water: Since the sensors measure the weather i.e. the moisture level of the soil, only the amount of water needed for the plants is distributed. This helps save resources while keeping your garden healthy and green. The irrigation controller is therefore the heart of your system.
Irrigation controller with sensors - rain, climate and soil moisture
Controllers with climate sensors (Hunter X-Core + Solarsync) or modern smart controllers can adjust the irrigation time based on the current weather. This saves water and the plants are perfectly watered according to their needs. Adding sensors, e.g. a rain sensor or a soil moisture sensor, to your controller helps to save water. If there is natural precipitation and sufficient moisture in the soil, watering is interrupted or not even started. As soon as the sensor dries out again, watering is again released. Soil moisture can be measured using a Hunter Soil Click Sensor. The SMT50 soil moisture sensor from Truebner can be integrated into a home automation system to measure water needs for soil and plants.
Remote control with app: Smart Garden controllers
Smart Garden controllers are connected to the internet via WLAN. You can use them to control the watering in your garden or on your balcony from anywhere using a tablet or smartphone. Both Hunter and Rain Bird offer smart controllers. Weather data can be accessed automatically via the internet. The controller calculates the optimal watering time depending on temperature, wind and other data. This means that the watering is automatically adjusted to the current weather.
Automatic 220V control via the power socket
A 220V control, on the other hand, works without a WLAN connection. Many 220V controllers can yet be upgraded to a Smart Garden controller by means of WLAN modules. The control unit is directly connected by cable to the solenoid valves through which the water flows to the sprinklers. Models include the Hunter X-Core series from Hunter. This irrigation controller is available as an indoor and outdoor model.
Controller on the water tap with battery
There are controllers that are suitable for direct use on the water tap. These are designed for small installations and are battery-operated. Often these simple controllers do not feature a connection option for rain sensors. If it rains, the irrigation controller would still activate the irrigation. The Hunter Node is also battery operated, but can take precipitation measurements into account using the Rain-Clik sensor. The controller is available with 1,2, 4 or 6 stations. When the sensor is wet from rain , the contact is closed and interrupts the irrigation zones.
Control of solenoid valve distribution in irrigation systems
The solenoid valve distribution is activated directly by the controller. The control unit opens one solenoid valve at a time, usually with 24 volts alternating current (24 V AC). As long as voltage is applied, the solenoid pulls the valve, it opens and water flows. In this way, different areas of the garden can be irrigated differently depending on the their water requirement.
Connecting the controller to the irrigation system
For the electrical connection between the irrigation control unit and the solenoid valves, a multi-core underground cable is used as the connecting cable. When installing the cables, we recommend using waterproof connections. Waterproof electrical fittings prevent corrosion of the connection points. Solenoid valves are closed without current; as soon as the control unit starts irrigation, voltage is applied to the respective irrigation circuit.
