What is the Bistable IBC Tank Solenoid Valve?

The valve is a technical solution from RPE specifically designed for use with Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBC). It allows automatic irrigation directly from IBC tanks without the use of a pump. This means you can direct water from the tank directly into a drip tube or microirrigation system and simply use the static pressure of the water column.

How does it work?

The main feature of this valve is that it works without back pressure. It can operate in a pressure range of 0.05 to 1.0 bar. This corresponds to a water column of 0.5-10m. By connecting it to a battery controller, such as those offered by companies like RPE, Hunter or Rain Bird, the valve is activated. A short 9V pulse is enough to open or close the valve.

This means that the system does not require a constant flow of energy to keep the valve in an open or closed state. A short pulse is enough, and it remains in its current position until it is activated again. Thus, one battery easily lasts an entire irrigation season.
